1.History

The Department of Geography was established in National Lanzhou University.
|

The bachelor program in physical geography of the Department of Geography was established.
|

The bachelor program of geology was established; the Department of Geography was renamed as the Department of Geology and Geography.

The department of physical Geography was authorized to confer the master’s degree as soon as China restored the academic degree system, and doctor’s degree in 1986. The bachelor program of economic geography and urban-rural planning was established in 1987.

With more than 70-year development, the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences has become a comprehensive teaching and research institute with a complete system in training bachelors, masters and doctors. There are more than 750 undergraduates, more than 450 postgraduates and over 170 PhD students. Our college has such characteristic research fields as the uplift and its environmental effects of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, climate change and its mechanisms, cryosphere science, regional response and impact of global change, western geological disasters, and the control of environmental pollution and the restoration of ecology in western regions. Our college is now famed as an important base for both fundamental research in geoscience & environmental science and academic exchanges and talent cultivation in western China.
5.International cooperation
Our college attaches great importance to international academic exchange, signing cooperation agreements with universities in countries like the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Japan. In recent years, "Belt and Road Initiative" provides excellent opportunities for the development of our college, especially in building cooperation and exchange relations with universities in Russia, Mongolia, Iran and Pakistan,etc. The college makes great efforts to strengthen international cooperation through jointly applying projects, hosting international conferences and opening joint summer schools, etc.
