Shi Zhilin received a doctor's degree in Chinese history from the Institute of Dunhuang Studies, School of History and Culture, Lanzhou University. His supervisor is Professor Zheng Binglin. Then he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in geography at Lanzhou University. His co-supervisors are Academician Chen Fahu and Professor Dong Guanghui. He mainly engaged in the study of Northwest historical geography and environmental archaeology. He has published 37 papers independently or cooperatively in Journal of Chinese Historical Geography, Historical Geography, Agricultural History of China, Journal of Dunhuang studies, Quaternary International, Acta Geologica Sinica, Geophysical Research Letters and so on, and will soon publish one translation. He presided over one youth project of NSFC and two other projects, participated in a number of National Key R & D Plans, National Science and Technology Support Plans, Key Projects of National Social Science Fund, and Major Projects of National Social Science Fund.
