On the morning of September 2nd, Dahe Qin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, made a special trip to the Yuzhong Campus of Lanzhou University to teach the course "Introduction to Cryosphere Science" to undergraduates of the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The course was jointly taught by Academician Dahe Qin andexperts from Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environmental and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has been developed consecutively for four years at Lanzhou University and has achieved good results.It has played a very good role and influence on improving the quality of undergraduate talent training in the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
During the class, Academician Dahe Qin explained in detail the concept of the cryosphere and cryosphere science, the relationship between the cryosphere and climate system, the role of cryosphere science in social and economic development, cryosphere science and geopolitics, etc. He encouraged the students to learn English well, to learn to use the cryosphere terminology correctly, and stressed that special attention should be paid to IPCC AR6 and its problems related to cryosphere science. He presented the "Frozen Science Vocabulary" and "Ice Cryosphere" edited by him, and the newly revised "Introduction to Cryosphere Science" textbook. This course enriches students' understanding of cryosphere science and climate change and stimulates students' interest in cryosphere science.
