From September 30 to October 10, the delegation led by Professor Nai’ang Wang, Director of the Center for Glacier and Desert Research, Lanzhou University, visited the Chinese Culture University of Taiwan (CCUT) and Taipei City University (TCU) for academic exchange. This activity was a return visit stage of the Geography Joint Internship in Cross-strait Universities and achieved the expected results.
The CCUT has most departments in universities of Taiwan and CCUT attaches importance to cross-strait student exchanges. Up to now, the CCUT has been conducting joint internships in Geography with Lanzhou University for five consecutive years. On the day after the arrival of the delegation, accompanied by Associate Professor Qingzhen Gao, former president of the Chinese Geographical Society of Taiwan, the delegation visited Mr. Jinghu Zhang, a fame geographer and meteorologist, Chairman of the CCUT. The delegation talked about the history of Gansu geography research and the "Gansu Provincial Humanities GeographyChronicle" co-edited by Professor Qingzhen Zhang and Professor Mei’e Ren with Mr. Zhang, and presented him with the book "Gansu Provincial Physical Geography Chronicle".
On the afternoon of October 1, accompanied by Associate Professor Hongfei Lei of the CCUT, the delegation went to southern Taiwan to investigate the typical sites such as inferior land, mud volcanoes and mudslides. After a visit in Alishan on October 5, accompanied by Dr. Yiqing Chen from Zhanghua Normal University, the delegation climbed Yushan, the first peak in eastern China, and conducted a preliminary investigation of the Quaternary glacial remains.
On the morning of October 9, invited by the Department of History and Geography of TCU, Professor Nai’ang Wang gave an academic report titled "The Geographical Environment Background of the Origin of Chinese Civilization" for the teachers and students of the department. Director Daxuan Guo expressed appreciation with a certificate for Professor Wang. TCU is a century-old university with a long history in Taiwan and has established a close relationship with Lanzhou University since 2013. After the report, the delegation and the teachers of TCU discussed the future personnel training and academic exchanges and cooperation.
