On November 10-12, the 2023 National Symposium on the Construction of First-class Undergraduate Programs in Geographic Sciences was held in Wuhan, hosted by the Steering Committee for Teaching Geographic Sciences in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Geographic Education Working Committee of the Chinese Geographical Society, and organized by Central China Normal University (CCNU). More than 400 experts and representatives from more than 130 colleges, universities and research institutes in China conducted in-depth discussions on "Construction of First-class Undergraduate Programs in Geographic Sciences".
Professor Gao Hongshan from the Department of Geography, Professor Jie Yaowen and Associate Professor Nian Yanyun from the Department of Geographic Information Science attended the seminar. In the group report, Gao Hongshan made a report on "Geomorphology Curriculum Construction and Exploration in Lanzhou University" focusing on the construction of first-class majors and courses in natural geography and resource environment, and Nian Yanyun made a report on "Research on the Integration of Science and Education to Promote the Improvement of the Quality of Undergraduate Teaching in GIS" focusing on the development of the construction of GIS majors. During the meeting, the delegates and the leaders and experts of the sister colleges and universities carried out extensive exchanges around the topics of discipline construction, specialty construction and curriculum construction.
