From December 2nd to 3rd, the "Twelfth National University GIS Application Skills Competition," hosted by the China Geographic Information Industry Association and the China Geographical Society, was successfully held at Guangzhou University. A team composed of four undergraduate students, Zhang Lanxin, Wang Yuxin, Sheng Hongjian, and Zhao Jingwen, under the guidance of teachers Jiang Zhiyong and Nian Yanyun, competed on the same stage with teams from 193 universities, including Peking University and Nanjing University, and won the first prize. Teachers Jiang Zhiyong and Nian Yanyun received the title of "Outstanding Guidance Teachers." Additionally, our college's 2021-level counselor, Teacher Lu Hui, served as the offline invigilator in this competition. The competition, held online this year, involved 768 students and 345 guidance teachers from 192 universities, totaling 1,113 participants. Concurrently, a GIS academic symposium and teaching seminar were organized during the competition.

The National University GIS Application Skills Competition, organized by the China Geographic Information Industry Association and the China Geographical Society, is the most authoritative and influential geographical information undergraduate skills competition in China. Its aim is to enhance the hands-on practical abilities of university students and promote the improvement of China's higher education in geographic information. It also serves to select and reserve outstanding talents for the development of GIS in China.
On November 21, the results of the 2023 "Yi Zhirui Cup" Chinese University GIS Software Development Competition were announced. The work titled "Remote Sensing Monitoring and Mechanism Analysis of Thaw Slumping in the Upper Reaches of the Heihe River Permafrost Region," completed under the guidance of Professor Peng Xiaoqing from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lanzhou University by students Fang Ruofei, Huang Yuan, Kong Siyang, and Wang Hongyan, stood out among more than 300 entries in the remote sensing application category and won the first prize.

The "Yi Zhirui Cup" Chinese University GIS Software Development Competition is organized by the Institute of Surveying and Mapping and the Yi Zhirui Company. Its purpose is to cultivate students' GIS skills and innovation capabilities, promote GIS technology, and cultivate talents for the GIS industry.
