Release time:2024-11-04 13:21:48

On September 9 and 14, 2024, Researcher Ren Jiawen, Executive Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Cryospheric Science at the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered lectures on the course "Introduction to Cryosphere Science" to undergraduate students from the Class of 2022 at Lanzhou University’s Qinling Hall.

Researcher Ren provided a comprehensive and detailed overview of the thermodynamic and morphological classification criteria of the cryosphere, including its geographical and zonal distribution patterns. He thoroughly explained the physical foundations underlying the formation and development of the cryosphere, with a focus on its unique physical characteristics. Ren discussed the physicochemical and electromagnetic properties of cryosphere components such as glaciers, permafrost, and snow, emphasizing the importance of studying cryospheric physical processes and the significance of understanding the evolution of cryosphere components.

In the classroom, Ren engaged students by posing thought-provoking questions and encouraging discussion, fostering not only a deeper understanding of cryosphere physical characteristics but also the development of critical thinking skills. He inspired students to approach scientific research with curiosity and a rigorous, open-minded attitude, encouraging them to question and explore actively.
