Reporter Profile:
Zheng Lei, Associate Professor at the School of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University. His main research interests are remote sensing of ice and snow, simulation of cold region surface processes, and polar climate change. He has participated in China's 38th Antarctic expedition and multiple scientific expeditions to the Tibetan Plateau and Xinjiang. In recent years, he has published nearly 40 SCI papers in international journals such as Geophysical Research Letters, Remote Sensing of Environment, Journal of Climate, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, The Cryosphere, and Journal of Geophysical Research. He has been instrumental in developing a near-real-time monitoring system for melting on polar ice caps using Chinese satellites, and his research results were selected as highlight papers by the American Geophysical Union (AGU). He has led projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s Youth Fund, China Postdoctoral Science Special Grant, and Sun Yat-sen University’s Talent Development Projects. Currently, he serves as the Vice Chairman of the China Polar Young Scientists Association and a member of the Committee on Digital Polar Earth Sciences, International Society for Digital Earth. He is also a young editorial board member of the journal Glacier and Permafrost.
