Professor Dong Zhibao, born in June 1966 in Hengshan County, Shaanxi, is the Vice President and a Professor at Shaanxi Normal University. He is a leading scholar in the study of aeolian processes in China. He has published over 700 papers, with 241 included in SCI and 103 in EI. He has authored seven monographs and co-authored another seven. His works have been cited 8,749 times in renowned journals such as Nature, Reports on Progress in Physics, Reviews of Geophysics, and Earth Science Reviews. Professor Dong has led more than ten national-level research projects, including three key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and one major national scientific research project. He holds 32 national patents, including six invention patents. Among his numerous awards, he has received the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (ranked 4th), the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of Gansu Province (ranked 1st), five other scientific and technological awards, and the China Youth Science and Technology Award. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, a selected member of the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, and a leading talent in the first tier of Gansu Province. Professor Dong also enjoys a special allowance from the State Council.
He serves as an independent expert on the Scientific and Technical Committee of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, Vice Chairman of the International Society for Aeolian Research, a committee member of the International Center for Drought Risk Reduction, a distinguished review expert for the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the United States, a member of the National Sandstorm Expert Committee, and vice-chairman of the Geomorphology and Quaternary Professional Committee of the Geographical Society of China. He is also vice-chairman of the Soil Erosion and Soil and Water Conservation Professional Committee of the Soil Science Society of China, vice-chairman of the Soil Wind Erosion Professional Committee of the China Soil and Water Conservation Society, an expert of the Basic Education Teaching Guidance Professional Committee of the Ministry of Education, vice-president of the Geographical Society of China, and associate editor of four SCI journals including Journal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Journal of Soil and Water Conservation, Aeolian Research, and Journal of Arid Land, as well as an editorial board member of the SCI journal Geomorphology.
