Invited by Professor Yongchun Yang, vice president of the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University and Key Laboratory of Western China’s Environmental Systems (Ministry of Education), Professor Benji Jiang from the Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering, National Taiwan University visited the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences on August 29th, 2019 and made an academic report.
On the report entitled “Review and Prospect of Environmental Engineering in Taiwan”, Professor Jiang introduced the history and development of environmental engineering teaching and research in Taiwan from five aspects: the evolution of environmental engineering science and technology development, green science and technology education, sustainable development courses, development suggestion on future environmental engineering and forward study plan on sustainable development. He also focused on the development strategies of environment-friendly green technologies related “5G”: Green Accounting, Green Business, Green Chemistry, Green Design and Green Energy.
Besides, professor Jiang made an academic report entitled “Implementation of Integrated Management and Innovative Technology for Low-carbon Resilient City towards SDGs”. He elaborated on all the development of global change, the sustainable development goals and the low carbon resilience theory. The logical concepts of healthy cities, garden cities, resilient cities, ecological cities, sustainable cities, green cities, smart cities, low-carbon cities and low-carbon resilient cities as a focus were analyzed through these aspects including society, infrastructure, environment, governance and economy. In Chinese modernization drive, green development is the theme of the times, the sustainable development suggestion from the report on inland cities in northwest China have significant value.
After the report, professor Jiang had an intensive exchange with teachers and students on whether the construction of a national park in the inland region of northwest China could solve the problem of ecotourism, the contradiction between protection and development in the region and the development reform of the poor areas.
