On July 12th, 2020, under the direction of Zeng Biao, Ding Suting, Jiang Hongmei and Xu Min, the students who majoring in Physical Geography and Resource Environment take part in the soil and plant geography practice at the Liancheng Forest Ecosystem Field Science Observation and Research Station. During the period, Mr. Zhang Junzhou and Director Man Zihong of the Bureau of Reserve Management were invited to teach these students the knowledge of rare plant species and plant physiological monitoring in the area. Mr. Zeng explained the coupling relationship among the landform, soil and vegetation distribution in the marginal zone of Tibet Plateau, helping students understand the evolution process and mechanism of the earth system dominated by multiple elements at multiple scales.
On the same day, Mr. Zeng and Mrs. Ding showed the field soil profile excavation and soil formation process analysis for the students so that they could not only observe the theoretical knowledge in the books of the field, but also learn how to observe, analyze, reason and analyze in real scientific research by combining what the learned in the class with the real case. Eventually, they could learn more through exploration and improve their own subject quality through practice.
During the two days of July 13th and July 14th, at Yongdeng Country, Jingtai Country and some other places, Mrs. Jiang taught students the species of plants in arid and semi-arid areas and their adaptability to the environment (picture on the left). In the evening, students learned how to make plant specimens under the guidance of the teachers (picture on the right).
By the day of July 15th, Mrs. Ding led the students to investigated the soil types in the desert that is on the edge of Tengger Desert and introduced the main soil-forming processes and diagnostic features of the desert soil.
On July 16, 2020, the internship team arrived in Huining County, the holy land of the Red Revolution.
