From June 14th to 18th, the 2024 Joint Annual Meeting of the Higher Education Geography Teaching Committee of the Ministry of Education and the Geography Education Committee of the China Geographical Society, hosted by the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Geography Teaching Committee and the Geography Education Committee of the China Geographical Society, and organized by China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), took place in Shennongjia Forestry District, Hubei Province. The theme of the conference was "Construction of Geography Majors and Discipline Development in the New Era." More than 400 experts and scholars, including heads of geography colleges, disciplines, and programs from universities nationwide, attended the meeting. Participants delivered keynote speeches, forum reports, and conducted field inspections focusing on topics such as the development of geography majors, the system for training geography talents, and collaborative field internships in geography.
Professors Pan Baotian, Gao Hongshan, Gong Jie, and Li Zhuolun from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences participated in the conference. Professor Pan Baotian delivered a keynote speech titled "Practice of Teaching Reform and Curriculum Development in Geography at Lanzhou University," detailing our school's experiences and achievements in teaching reform and curriculum development over recent years from the perspectives of disciplinary development, professional construction, and geomorphology course development. In the subgroup presentations, Professor Li Zhuolun presented on "Discovery Plan Teaching Model and Practical Teaching System at Lanzhou University Geography Base," highlighting the objectives and features of activities such as the "Discovery Plan" at Lanzhou University and joint internships in geography among universities in Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Throughout the conference, participants engaged in exchanges and in-depth discussions with experts from sister universities on topics including the construction of geography majors, textbook and curriculum development, talent cultivation, collaborative field internships, ideological and political education in curriculum, and teaching reforms.
