Recently, the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education announced the list of approved research projects for experimental teaching and laboratory construction for 2024. The project titled "Exploration of an Integrated Science-Education Approach for Cultivating Top Innovative Talents in Geography," led by Professor Gou Xiaohua from our school, was approved. The project team members include Wang Xin, Pan Yanhui, He Jianhua, Cao Huihui, Zhou Aifeng, Yang Shengli, Zhang Pingyu, Li Qiong, and Yang Xiaoyan.
This project, supported by the National Basic Science Research and Talent Training Base for Geography, aims to explore new pathways for supporting undergraduate top innovative talent training through research laboratories. The project plans to develop a new integrated experimental teaching system encompassing foundational knowledge, field sampling, experimental operation, data analysis, and result presentation. By creating multimedia micro-courses for experimental teaching, a QR code database for experimental operations, and a high-quality case teaching material library, the project seeks to organically integrate various teaching methods to improve teaching approaches and enhance teaching quality. Addressing the shortage of courses and textbooks for geographical experimental analysis, the project will establish the course "Scientific Experimental Analysis of Geographic Environmental Changes" and compile accompanying textbooks. This will form a new experimental teaching model that complements scientific research and undergraduate teaching, serving as a reform example to be promoted.
The establishment of the Ministry of Education's research projects on experimental teaching and laboratory construction aims to thoroughly implement Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It strives to comprehensively improve the quality of independent training of top innovative talents, continuously enhance the educational function of experimental teaching, and persistently improve the construction and management level of laboratories. The approved project of our school will closely align with these objectives, conducting research on experimental practice teaching, exploring a new model of integrated science-education approach in geography experimental teaching, and elevating the level of experimental education and teaching.
