Reporter Profile:Professor Hou Shugui is a distinguished professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and an adjunct professor at Nanjing University. He received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2008, led a key field innovation team of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2017, and was recognized as a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation by the "Ten Thousand Talents Program." In 1994, he participated in Arctic scientific research, being one of the earliest Chinese researchers to explore the Arctic region. He has participated in two Chinese Antarctic expeditions, notably joining China's 21st Antarctic Ice Sheet Expedition, where he reached Dome A, the highest point of the Antarctic ice sheet, for the first time. He has organized or participated in over 30 glacier expeditions on the Tibetan Plateau, drilling nearly 2,000 meters of ice cores. Over the years, Professor Hou has focused on ice core research in Antarctica and the Tibetan Plateau, reconstructing the chronological framework of the Tibetan Plateau ice cores and reinterpreting their climate records.
