At the invitation of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Glacial and Desert Research Center of Lanzhou University, Professor Wang Xianyan from Nanjing University visited our college and delivered an academic report on May 30, 2024.

Expert Profile:

Professor Wang Xianyan is a professor and deputy dean at the School of Geographic and Oceanographic Sciences, Nanjing University, and the vice chairman of the Jiangsu Geographic Society. He was awarded the Outstanding Youth Science Fund by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2015. He received his Bachelor's degree in Geology from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in 2002, and his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. In 2014, he obtained a Ph.D. from VU University Amsterdam. Since 2008, he has been working at the School of Geographic and Oceanographic Sciences, Nanjing University, engaging in research and teaching in physical geography/geomorphology. His research in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and western China integrates geomorphology, chronology, sedimentology, low-temperature thermochronology, and numerical modeling to explore river geomorphology evolution and its relationship with climate change and tectonic activity. He has led various projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, including youth, general, and distinguished youth projects, as well as the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research (STEP). Professor Wang has published over 100 academic papers in journals such as Communications Earth & Environment, GSA Bulletin, Earth Surface Dynamics, Geomorphology, and Science China. He has received the First Prize in Natural Science from the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Youth Science and Technology Award.
