Title: Changes and Impacts of Lakes on the Third Pole
Moderator: Professor Cao Bo, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University
Time: Wednesday, September 11, 2024, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Venue: Room 907, Guanyun Building, Chengguan Campus, Lanzhou University
Expert Profile:
Researcher Zhang Guoqing has conducted comprehensive and systematic research through long-term field observation and remote sensing monitoring of lakes on the Third Pole, focusing on their response to climate change and associated disaster risks under the background of global warming. His findings have revealed the response patterns of lakes on the Third Pole to global warming and elucidated the disaster risks posed by these changes, enriching the field of lake remote sensing. He has published over 100 papers in renowned journals such as Nature Geoscience, Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, Nature Climate Change, PNAS, Earth Science Reviews, Remote Sensing of Environment, and Geophysical Research Letters. He has been awarded the Second Prize in Science and Technology by the Tibet Autonomous Region and has been recognized as an Outstanding Author by Science Bulletin, among other accolades. He is also listed among China's Highly Cited Scholars by Elsevier and the world's top 2% scientists. Zhang led the development of lake datasets for the Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas, which were recognized as the "Most Contributing Data Team." Additionally, he serves as a guest editor for Remote Sensing of Environment and as a scientific editor for Journal of Glaciology (2025-2027).
